The first question that we asked in our questionnaire was 'who is you favourite indie artist?', from this question three people said that they like James Bay, one person said that they like Andy Shauf, another person said they like Jamie Woon, another persons favourite indie artist is George Ezra and two people said that their favourite is Tom Odell. From these artists the two top ones are James Bay and Tom Odell. This is good for us because Tom Odell is the artist out of these two who fits our chosen genre of Indie Pop whereas James Bay is of the genre Indie Rock and our song is by Tom Odell and called 'Grow Old with Me'.
The next question asked to the target audience was 'what is the main theme you expect to see in this music video due to the genre of Indie Pop?'. Three of the people responded with romance as their expected theme, two people said that they expect love and one person said that they expect love loss/ sadness. As 5 out of the 6 people that we asked about what theme they expect said love/ romance, we will base our music video around a romantic love story between the artist and a girlfriend that he will have In the music video and not a love loss. This is because of there being a majority that want a romantic story and therefore more people are likely to watch our music video if we follow what the target audience want.
The third question we asked our target audience is 'what generic conventions would you expect to see in this music video?'. The majority of answers replied to the question with guitars, pianos and performance. As performance is an element that is used in music videos and our audience want it we will ensure that there are performance shots within our music video. Although people have mentioned guitars and pianos we think that it would be best to only have the artist play one of these instruments because it is not often that an artist plays multiple instruments and sings within their music video. A romantic narrative/ setting is also a common answer to this questions. Therefore our music video will have a love story as the narrative. This is quite a popular convention in a music video and many songs that have had music videos based around love sell many albums so therefore we think it will be a good idea to have a narrative about love. Someone said that they think of parks as a generic convention for indie music videos. This is a setting that is often used in indie music videos so when we create out music video we will have a park as one of the locations.

The next question asked to the target audience was 'do you expect the visuals in the music video to reflect what you hear in the lyrics'. Half of the answers said 'yes' and the other half of the answers said 'sometimes'. As none of the answers said no but not everyone wanted it all the time and to be 'literal', we will have some of the visuals in the music video reflect the lyrics. For example, as our song is 'Grow Old With Me' by Tom Odell, some of the lyrics say 'I'll pull the sheets, when it cold on your feet', the artist can be next to his girlfriend and pull the sheets over her whilst she's sleeping because he doesn't want her to get cold. This also follows the narrative being romantic because the artist is making sure his girlfriend is comfortable and warm.
We then put the questions 'do you prefer positive storylines in music videos or storylines such as heartbreak that you feel many people can relate to?' on our questionnaire. 50% of the people would prefer a storyline about heartbreak and the other 50% of the target audience would prefer a positive music video. This makes it hard what to base the storyline on however as most people said they would like a romantic narrative this suggests that they would prefer it to be positive and not about a break up. The song 'Grow Old With Me' could have a positive or negative music video, although the negative would not be heartbreak it may be the people dying when they get old and that's where the 'negative' storyline would be, however we are going to leave the music video on a positive note at the end as we also fit the target audience brief and prefer a happy music video to sad so due to the 50/50 divide in our questionnaires we have made the final decision to have a positive music video.
Our final question was 'do you prefer basic low budget settings in a music video or materialistic high budget music videos?'. Five out of the six people responded with low budget and simple settings as their response to this question. This is good for us when we film our music video as we can find locations that are cheap or free such as parks, houses and realistic settings instead of high budget sets and performance on a big stage with loads of fans added in. This means we can have the performance of our artist singing at a piano or with a guitar. Low budget settings also suits our genre of indie music more as independent record labels do not have as high a budget to spend on this.
From doing this analysis of questionnaires it will help us when we prepare and create our
music video because we will produce something that we know will appeal to the target market. We now know that people like Tom Odell so will like the song choice, people expect love and romance and our narrative will be about this, we will either use a guitar or piano in our music video for the artist to perform with. We will link the lyrics to the visuals at points in our music video and will have a positive narrative and low budget settings.
